Bolu Akinyode has been named the 2019 Speedway Soccer Midfielder of the Year. Akinyode received 56.9% of the fan vote and 80% of the Speedway Soccer vote to claim the award.
Akinyode played 2,298 minutes and appeared in 32 matches in the 2019 season. Typically sound with the ball, completing a team high 89% of his passes, but was more aggressive with his forward passing than last season. His 74 tackles won led the team by a significant margin (the second highest total was 40), and his one goal was a memorable stoppage time winner over Charleston. Akinyode wasn't a nailed-down starter at the beginning of the year, but he took his opportunities to become a vital member of the team down the stretch.
Others receiving votes: Matt LaGrassa (37.5% fan vote, 20% Speedway vote), Michael Reed (4.2% fan vote), Derrick Jones (1.4% fan vote).
