NASHVILLE, TN - Nashville SC announced Wednesday that midfielder Vinnie Vermeer has been loaned to fellow USL Championship side Las Vegas Lights for the remainder of the 2019 season.
Vermeer, 24, joined Nashville after a successful spell on trial before the season. After a strong preseason with the club, Vermeer only made one league appearance, starting against New York Red Bulls II on March 24 before coming off injured in the 29th minute.
Las Vegas are currently in 10th place in the USL Championship Western Conference. Under first year head coach Eric Wynalda, they've had an inconsistent 2019 season, only losing once at home, but only winnning once on the road. The addition of Vermeer should help strengthen a midfield that does well controlling the ball, and give the Dutch midfielder the opportunity to play meaningful minutes.
The move leaves Nashville with just 18 outfield players currently on their roster, and with Derrick Jones likely to miss a large portion of the season through injury, options are limited for head coach Gary Smith. However, the move frees up an international roster spot for NSC, who now have two available, and will likely look to bring in players for MLS during this summer transfer window.
