NASHVILLE, TN - Nashville SC announced Wednesday that midfielder Vinnie Vermeer has been recalled from his loan at Las Vegas Lights FC. Just seven days after the move was announced, Vermeer is headed back east to a side that is in a bit of an injury crisis in midfield. Midfielders Matt LaGrassa and Michael Reed both left the match in Louisville due to injury, joining Derrick Jones on the list of unavailable central midfielders.
Prior to recalling Vermeer, Nashville's only healthy central midfielder was Bolu Akinyode. With playing time appearing to be the primary reason for Vermeer's loan, it makes sense to bring him back, as he'll see plenty of action in the next couple weeks. It also probably doesn't bode well for the health of Reed or LaGrassa, at least in the short term.
Nashville SC have an 11 day break between matches to recover before a trip to Memphis 901 FC on July 17. Vermeer will bring added depth to a shorthanded midfield, and will give LaGrassa and Reed time to fully recover as Nashville look to make a run in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
