ORLANDO, FL - Nashville SC has not been withdrawn from the MLSisBack Tournament yet, Major League Soccer and Nashville announced Tuesday. The league confirmed that five Nashville players have tested positive for Covid-19 - two over the weekend and three receiving confirmed positive results last night. An additional four players received inconclusive results and will be re-tested. Nashville's opening match against Chicago Fire, scheduled for Wednesday night, has been postponed. From MLS's statement:
"In conjunction with the club, MLS will continue to evaluate Nashville SC’s participation in theMLS is Back Tournament following the results of additional testing."
It's a bit of positive news for Nashville, with fears growing that they would be withdrawn from the tournament outright. The latest announcement at least leaves the door open for the expansion side to participate. However, they're not in the clear yet, with the league's statement making it obvious that their status in the tournament is still up for evaluation.
When FC Dallas's first match was postponed, MLS concurrently confirmed that their match against Seattle, initially the second match on their schedule, would function as their first match, giving the club a clear timeline. No such confirmation for Nashville, who know they won't be playing tomorrow night. The results of the additional tests will likely confirm whether or not Nashville remains in the tournament.
