Power Rankings Week 29

This method of ranking team performance factors in point per game, strength of schedule, and goal difference. This isn't an attempt to predict the final table, but rather a way to measure a team's form over the course of the season.

  1. NYRB II (↔): Not a great week for the leaders. Lost 2-0 in Saint Louis and 5-3 in Louisville. Opening the door for Tampa Bay or Nashville to take the top spot.

  2. Tampa Bay Rowdies (↔): Fell 1-0 in Ottawa midweek but rebounded nicely at home, beating Bethlehem Steel 6-1.

  3. Nashville SC (↔): Had another opportunity to gain ground, and yet again failed to capitalize. Squeaked out a 1-0 win over Birmingham midweek, and was held to a 0-0 draw by a Pittsburgh side that played down a man for 50+ minutes.

  4. Pittsburgh Riverhounds (↑1): Picked up a good point on the road in Nashville, despite having Adewole sent off rather harshly in the first half. With games in hand on most sides around them, they're in good shape.

  5. Indy Eleven (↓1): Beaten in Birmingham to drop a spot. They have two games in hand on New York, but with a packed schedule to close out the season, they'll have a tough time taking full points from all of them.

  6. North Carolina FC (↔): Beaten on the road by Charleston to give their top four hopes a hit.

  7. Louisville City FC (↔): Went off at home against New York, scoring five goals and making a big statement late in the season. They could still challenge for a home playoff spot.

  8. Ottawa Fury FC (↔): A solid week. Beat Tampa Bay and Hartford to take a much-needed six points.

  9. Saint Louis FC (↔): Pulled off a huge 2-0 win at home against Tampa Bay to really strengthen their claim for a playoff spot, but then lost 1-0 in Memphis. They're not making things easy for themselves.

  10. Charleston Battery (↔): Had a disappointing 3-1 loss on the road to Atlanta, but rebounded with a 2-1 win against North Carolina. They're still alive, but there's not much wiggle room.

  11. Birmingham Legion FC (↔): Dropped points to a late own goal in Nashville, but bounced back with a massive home win over Indy Eleven. They look like they're on track for a playoff spot.

  12. Bethlehem Steel (↔): A mixed week. Beat Loudoun 5-2 at home before getting trounced 6-1 in Tampa Bay.

  13. Memphis 901 FC (↑2): Keeping things interesting just below the playoff line with a massive home win over Saint Louis.

  14. Charlotte Independence (↓1): Officially eliminated from playoff contention this week with a 3-0 loss at home against a horrible Swope Park side.

  15. Loudoun United FC (↓1): Lost to Bethlehem on the road to dig themselves even deeper in a hole.

  16. Swope Park Rangers (↔): One result away from elimination, but aren't going down without a fight, eliminating Charlotte with a 3-0 road win.

  17. Hartford Athletic (↔): Became the first side to be officially eliminated this season with other results midweek, and lived up to that billing with a 4-1 loss in Ottawa.

  18. Atlanta United 2 (↔): Playing spoiler a bit at this point, beating Charleston 3-1 midweek. One result next week could eliminate them.

  1. Phoenix Rising FC (↔): The winning streak ended in Fresno, but the leaders are still in great shape and have the opportunity to potentially rest players a bit and get fully ready for the playoffs.

  2. Reno 1868 FC (↔): Won 3-1 in New Mexico to officially clinch a playoff spot.

  3. Fresno FC (↔): Beat RGV Toros 5-0 midweek and ended Phoenix's 20 match win streak with a massive performance at home, securing a spot in the postseason to boot. A huge week for the club.

  4. Sacramento Republic FC (↔): Held to a 0-0 draw in Oklahoma City, but still look in good shape going forward.

  5. Real Monarchs SLC (↔): Smashed Tacoma midweek before dropping points on the road to RGV Toros.

  6. Orange County SC (↔): They've really improved towards the back end of the season, winning in Tulsa this week. They look like a side who could cause some upsets in the postseason.

  7. San Antonio FC (↔): Went down a man early in the second half, but held on for a 1-1 draw away to Los Dos to hang onto a playoff spot.

  8. Austin Bold FC (↑4): Jump up four spots after a 4-1 win in Las Vegas. Look likely to take one of the final playoff spots.

  9. New Mexico United (↓1): Looked improved last week, and disappointed again this week, losing 3-1 at home to Reno. They're not making things easy for themselves late in the season.

  10. Portland Timbers 2 (↔): Put six goals past Tacoma to stay relevant in the playoff race.

  11. El Paso Locomotive FC (↓2): Beat a really poor Colorado Springs side 2-0 to keep pace with the other playoff hopefuls.

  12. LA Galaxy II (↓1): Couldn't find a winner against 10-man San Antonio, dropping two vitals points in their race for the postseason.

  13. OKC Energy (↔): Held Sacramento to a 0-0 draw, but needed more from the match to try and secure a playoff berth.

  14. Las Vegas Lights FC (↔): Consistently inconsistent, losing 4-1 in Austin. They look very much like a longshot to finish top 10.

  15. Rio Grande Valley FC (↔): Smashed on the road in Fresno and beaten by Real Monarchs on the weekend. A result away from official elimination.

  16. Tulsa Roughnecks FC (↔): Beaten at home by Orange County, despite an improved performance. Like RGV Toros, one result away from elimination.

  17. CS Switchbacks FC (↔): Beaten in El Paso. Officially out of playoff contention.

  18. Tacoma Defiance (↔): Unsurprisingly, this side continues to give away goals, conceding 10 in two matches this week and officially ending their playoff hopes.

Here's how the playoff race is shaping up. Included are three columns: current points, projected points based on home/away ppg, and maximum possible points. The playoff line indicates the required current points needed to have clinched a playoff spot, and the elimination line indicates that a side's maximum points are less than the current points of at least 10 sides.
