Preview: Loudoun United vs Nashville SC

Nashville SC are back in action after their disappointing draw at home to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. They travel to Loudoun United's new home of Segra Field for their final away match of the season. Here is what we are expecting from the match.

While, the majority of attention will be on the match in Virginia, I'm sure many of us will also be keeping a close eye on the other matches in the league. Nashville SC currently sit 4th in the Eastern Conference on goal difference over the Riverhounds and have a chance to go top in the East if the results fall the right way. Nashville will need to secure 3 points tomorrow if they want that chance.

Last Saturday's match against Pittsburgh saw Daniel Ríos made his return to the starting lineup, while Cameron Lancaster came on as a sub and Derrick Jones made the bench again. With Forrest Lasso expected to return from his slight hamstring issue and Ropapa Mensah back from illness, Nashville will travel to Loudoun United with a close to full strength squad.

Head coach Gary Smith has used the 4-2-3-1 formation to start out against Pittsburgh and with the team nearing full strength, I expect that to continue. He did switch to a back 3 in the second but do not see a continuation of that .

Last Saturday saw the return of Daniel Ríos to the starting lineup and with an additional week of training, expect to see him continue up top. Cameron Lancaster also made a substitute appearance but Coach Smith said in his pre-match interview that we more than likely won't see him start this week as he isn't that far along. Lebo Moloto should see a lot of the ball in the middle of the field with opportunities to get it out wide to Kharlton Belmar and Ropapa Mensah.

Loudoun United can be a bit porous in defense which gives Coach Smith a good chance to rest both Ken Tribbett and Bolu Akinyode. Derrick Jones has made the bench for the past two games and Saturday looks to be a good chance for him to get his first start since his injury on May 29th. Jones has the ability to create from deep coupled with a strong defensive presence who will pair well with Matt LaGrassa.

In defense, Justin Davis and Darnell King will continue as the fullbacks along side Jimmy Ockford at centerback. Forrest Lasso was a scratch against Pittsburgh with hamstring tightness but will slot back in alongside Ockford. Matt Pickens has been in net for the past 5 games an will probably get some much needed rest with Connor Sparrow starting in goal.

INJURY REPORT- Will be available once published

Nashville opened their season against Loudoun United winning 2-0 but there is not much that we can take from that game. Head Coach Richie Williams left in May to take a job as an assistant for Bruce Arena and was replaced by former academy director Ryan Martin. Loudoun are 1-3-1 in their last 5 with their 1 win coming this past Wednesday against Swope Park.

Head coach Ryan Martin heavily favors the 4-2-3-1 and will look to continue using that formation against Nashville. As with other MLS affiliates, it can prove to be a difficult task to predict the squads but with Theodore Ku-Dipietro picking up a red at the end of their match against Swope, he will for sure be missing.

Loudoun United will more than likely start a similar lineup to what they did against Swope Park. Gordon Wild is coming off a hat trick mid week and will look to get at the back line up Nashville SC. The biggest question will be if leading scorer, Kyle Murphy, is back in the lineup. If not expect to see Elvis Amoh leading the line for Loudoun. In defense, the loss of Donovan Pines to the first team has caused them to struggle defensively which should allow Nashville the chance to create plenty of offensive opportunities.
