Preview: Nashville SC vs Indy Eleven (Preseason)

After dispatching collegiate side Lipscomb University midweek, Nashville SC head to Evansville, Indiana to wrap up their preseason against fellow USL contenders Indy Eleven. As the last match before points are on the line, we expect to see a tight contest against two teams who should finish towards the top of the Eastern Conference table this season.

Indy had maybe the best offseason in USL after Nashville, bringing in 11 new players, including goalie Evan Newton from FC Cincinnati, forward Ilija Ilić from Louisville City, and winger Thomas Enevoldsen from Orange County SC. With these strong additions and a full offseason with manager Martin Rennie, Indy will look to build on a 2018 campaign that saw them finish 7th in the east, beating Nashville twice in the process. So far, however, their preseason hasn't gone perfectly for them. After drawing Butler University 0-0, they lost 0-1 to Forward Madison FC and 1-2 to Lansing Ignite FC, both of USL League One. It should be noted, though, that they have played a significant number of trialists in their preseason matches.

We expect both teams to field strong lineups tomorrow. It's their last chance to tweak their systems before league play begins next weekend. They also don't play each other in the league until May 25, so we doubt they will really try to hide much - by the time they play for real, there will be plenty of tape on both.

Indy has been using a mix of a 4-3-3 and a 4-3-1-2 so far in the preseason.

Nashville has used a mix of a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-4-2 so far. We expect they'll continue with this tomorrow. We have LaGrassa slated to start as the #10, although it wouldn't be a surprise to see Daniel Ríos replace him and play as a second forward underneath Lancaster. "We won’t be far away at the weekend from what a starting lineup might look like," said Nashville coach Gary Smith in the club's release. "I am looking forward to it. Should be a very tough game.”
