The USL Championship has released their Game of the Week schedule, and Nashville SC will feature twice.
All nationally televised matches are midweek games, and both of Nashville's are on Wednesday nights. First is a home match against Tampa Bay Rowdies on May 8, followed by a May 22 trip to Birmingham Legion FC.
From ESPN's perspective, it's easy to see why these matches were selected. Nashville and Tampa Bay played two competitive matches last season - Nashville left Tampa Bay with a 1-1 draw and the Rowdies won 2-1 in Nashville. Additionally, there are several connections between the two clubs. Former Rowdies stalwart Matt Pickens is the current first-choice goalie and the goalkeeper coach in Nashville. Striker Brandon Allen is currently with Tampa Bay after a scoring eight goals in Nashville last year.
Nashville doesn't have a history against Birmingham Legion FC, but geographically the two clubs are some of the eastern conference's closest rivals (their stadiums are 194 miles apart). It will be the first ever competitive match between the clubs, with Nashville winning their preseason encounter 3-0.
In all, 22 USL matches will be televised on national networks. ESPN+ will have all USL matches available to stream domestically. Locally, MyTV30 will broadcast 27 of Nashville's 34 USL matches, with 94.9 Game 2 broadcasting 23 matches on the radio.
