This method of ranking team performance factors in point per game, strength of schedule, and goal difference. It's still early in the season, and some teams have played more matches than others. This early in the season, one result can drastically alter a team's ranking, but as the season progresses the rankings will begin to steady.
Saint Louis FC (↔): Went to Atlanta as the clear favorites and left with a 0-2 win. Comfortably ahead as the top team in the east.
Tampa Bay Rowdies (↑ 1): Moved up a spot after thrashing Hartford 4-0.
Charleston Battery (↑2): Beat Charlotte 2-0 and moved up two spots.
North Carolina FC (↑ 1): One of the biggest surprises of the season. Drew Memphis 1-1 to continue their solid start to the season.
Nashville SC (↑ 5): Got a big boost this week after a big win in Ottawa.
NYRB II (↓ 4): The drop here is a bit misleading, as their match in Birmingham was postponed due to weather.
Pittsburgh Riverhounds (↑ 6): Week 5's most improved team, jumping up 6 points after a 1-0 win in Louisville.
Bethlehem Steel (↑ 4): Won in Kansas City in a thrilling 3-4 win against Swope Park.
Indy Eleven (↓ 1): Had the week off, so the drop isn't anything related to their performance.
Memphis 901 FC (↓ 1): Couldn't hold onto a lead in North Carolina, drawing 1-1 after playing the final 30 minutes up a man.
Charlotte Independence (↓ 4): Lost 2-0 in Charleston and dropped four spots.
Atlanta United 2 (↓ 1): Lost at home to Saint Louis.
Ottawa Fury FC (↓ 7): Beaten handily at home by Nashville. Their drop is also the result of a really small sample size - prior to this week, they had only played twice.
Louisville City FC (↔): Still in 14th after a lackluster 1-0 home loss to Pittsburgh. Their early season struggles have been the surprise of the season.
Birmingham Legion FC (↔): Their match against New York was postponed.
Swope Park Rangers (↔): Threw away a 3-1 lead at home to Bethlehem Steel. I picked them to finish 4th before the season started, and that's looking like a big mistake.
Loudoun United FC (↔): Didn't play this week.
Hartford Athletic (↔): Very comfortably in last place. Through five weeks, they have a goal difference of -9. On track to be the worst team in USL history.
